Mr. Laufer served as a Special Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Organized Crime & Racketeering Section. He also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York.
After leaving the federal prosecutors’ office, Mr. Laufer has over decades successfully represented clients in matters before federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (“CFTC”), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”), the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) and the New York Attorney General’s Office.
Mr. Laufer has prevailed in arguments before the Supreme Court of the United States, the New York State Court of Appeals and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Additionally, Mr. Laufer has appeared in federal and state trial and appellate courts throughout the United States, including New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Phoenix.
Mr. Laufer has successfully handled complex criminal and commercial litigation matters, in both trial and appellate courts, involving a broad variety of legal areas, including issues relating to the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, money laundering, corruption, SEC, CFTC, HUD, SCA, IRS and FDA regulations, export control laws, mail and wire fraud, education/technology fraud, criminal and civil forfeiture, mortgage fraud, tax fraud, healthcare fraud, social security fraud, false arrest, homicide, manslaughter, entertainment litigation, labor and union regulations, construction corruption cases, partnership disputes, professional malpractice, political bribery, drugs, and sex offenses.
Mr. Laufer has represented a foreign government, numerous community organizations, including schools and non-for-profit charitable organizations, a labor union, a judge, law enforcement officers, a bank chairman, bank officers, union officials, lawyers, doctors, accountants, engineering firms, civil engineers, architects, consultants, domestic and foreign businessmen and a member of a local civilian patrol organization. Mr. Laufer has also successfully represented many prominent entertainment figures.

Mr. Laufer graduated Fordham University School of Law, cum laude, as a member of the Fordham Law Review, and from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York.
